The Chicago area is still “in recession” and has a 35 percent chance of being in recession six months from now, though other Illinois metro areas are recovering, according to a compilation of leading economic indicators published by Moody’s Analytics.
“Nationwide, we view the chance of a new recession as one in three, up from one in five a few months ago,” the report says.
The study examined economic indicators for 384 metropolitan areas and found that 281 are in “recovery,” 65 are in recession, and 34 are at risk for another recession. (All areas in Illinois are in recovery except Chicago, in recession, and Lake County, which is at risk.)
